First-time scholarship award presentation

The Sonya McLoyd Education Scholarship was presented to three recipients planning to further their education during a special presentation made July 19 at Calvary Community Missionary Baptist Church in Steubenville where Sonya was an active and caring member. Sonya’s parents are the Rev. Calvin McLoyd, church pastor, and his wife, Vivian McLoyd, who awarded the scholarships for the first time in keeping their daughter’s dream and legacy alive by helping others fulfill their dreams. The scholarship recipients are Serenity Creech, Audrey Post and Anna Knight. A 2020 graduate of Steubenville High School, Creech will pursue an associate degree in nursing at Eastern Gateway Community College with plans to earn her bachelor’s degree in nursing from a historical black college/university in Georgia. She attends Second Baptist Church and is the daughter of Diana Brown. Post is attending Baldwin Wallace University, pursuing a degree in public relations, and wants to address concerns for the role of women in the professional workplace. She is a dedicated volunteer at the Sycamore Youth Center in Steubenville. Knight is attending Muskingum University, working toward a degree in marketing, economic management. She is active in her local church and the Sycamore Youth Center because of her passion for caring for the needy and youth. From left are Vivian McLoyd, Knight, Rev. McLoyd, Creech and Post.
