Zone 7 Lions Cub meeting held in Mingo
MINGO JUNCTION — A social distancing cookout was held when the Zone 7 Lions Club meeting was held Sept. 1 at the Aracoma Park picnic shelter.
Jeff Schultz, Mingo Lions president, provided and prepared the food for the event. John Stine, Zone 7 chairman, brought the meeting to order and led the pledge to the flag. The invocation was given by William Johns.
Clubs represented were Mingo, Brilliant, Steubenville, Toronto and Richmond.
Sam Bates, Cadiz Lions Club president and chairman for Toys for Tots, displayed some older toys kept from his son’s youth, including a toy dump truck, a jointed teddy bear and tracks from an electric train.
New toys are being collected, Bates noted, and need to be brought to the next district meeting or delivered to him. The toys need to be new and age appropriate.
Terry Snyder, Lions district governor, reported on Lions Club Service Week to be observed Oct. 4-10 and reminded district chairmen that their commitment forms needed to be turned in. Bill Snyder, Mingo Lions Club past president, reminded members about the collection of plastic bottle caps and pop tab.
The district governor reported on the Happy Paws zone project under way for the first half of the year. A project for the second half will be discussed at a later meeting. Pediatric cancer is another project to be undertaken by the district. An open round table was held with zone chairmen reporting on their projects and plans. Despite COVID-19 restrictions, projects are being accomplished.
