Fun Seekers welcome guests, get trip info

STEUBENVILLE –The Fun Seekers met Oct. 7 at Scaffidi’s Restaurant in Steubenville.

Charlotte Christian, treasurer, opened the meeting and introduced Ed Littlejohn and former Judge Dan Spahn, guests of Frank Vostatek and Lola Swanagan; Robert Straface, guest of Rosemary Straface; and Kerry Thieme, guest of Mary Alice Meyer.

Vostatek gave the opening prayer and led in the Pledge of Allegiance.

October birthdays and anniversaries were acknowledged, and prayer concerns voiced. Following dinner, President Judi Gaynor called several games of bingo. A 50-50 drawing was held. Mums provided by Regina and Carl Truax were given as door prizes.

Numerous trips were announced, including: Dec. 2, “The Sounds of Christmas,” Chadwick Center, Wexford, Pa.; Jan. 10, “Hamilton,” Benedum, Pittsburgh; April 3, “Pretty Woman,” Benedum; April 15-16, Vera Bradley Outlet sale; and June 18, Ohio Star Theater, “The Tabuchi Show,” Sugar Creek. The next meeting will be held Nov. 4 at Undo’s in Weirton.

Chapter recognizes

two Violet Sisters

NEW CUMBERLAND — The Alpha Tau Chapter (WV) of Alpha Delta Kappa, International Honorary Organization for Women Educators held its October meeting via Zoom. The meeting was called to order by President Diane Bowers.

The thought for the day, “A Teacher’s Prayer,” was read by Chaplain Kathy Griffith. A Founder’s Day Program, which honored the four creators of the organization, was presented by Bowers.

Roll call was taken and minutes were read by secretary Velda Icard. Treasurer Fran Jones gave the financial report, and committee reports were given by chairpersons. Plans were made to promote Alpha Delta Kappa Month, and the group also discussed ways and means ideas to support upcoming altruistic projects.

Stacy Riggs and Amy Hannahs were recognized as Violet Sisters for their 10-year membership in the organization.

Members were extended an invitation to the Ohio Valley District meeting to be held Oct. 31.

Alpha Tau also celebrated its 43rd “birthday.” The chapter was installed on Oct. 9, 1977, by Alpha Kappa chapter.

The next meeting will be held on Nov. 10 at the Swaney Memorial Library in New Cumberland. Members are asked to bring an item of personal significance to share with the group.

Election Day luncheon

BRILLIANT — Brilliant United Methodist Church, 525 Labelle St., will host an Election Day lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Nov. 3.

The menu includes soup by the bowl, $2; pint, $3; and quart, $6. Sandwiches available are

meatball hoagie, $3.50; hot turkey, $2.25; sloppy joe, $2; and hot dogs, $1. Pasta salad is $1 and a variety of desserts are $1 each.
