Ohio Valley Music Guild invites residents to online concert by ‘America’s Got Talent’ singer

WINTERSVILLE — Although the Ohio Valley Music Guild won’t hold any physical events this year because of the coronavirus pandemic, its commitment to offering quality entertainment won’t go on hold entirely.

Tuesday will bring something new for the nonprofit .

“For more than 16 years, the Ohio Valley Music Guild has been bringing quality, cultural entertainment to the area,” noted Matthew Gallabrese, publicity spokesperson for the guild. “Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 and its related safety precautions and procedures, the music guild’s board of directors has decided to not hold any physical events for calendar year 2020,” he begins the explanation.

“However, this has empowered us to think differently about how we can still fulfill our mission and bring quality entertainment to the Ohio Valley,” Gallabrese said.

The guild invites area residents on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. to access the guild’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/OhioValleyMusicGuild for a free concert featuring Ashley Marina, a 12-year-old singer/songwriter from Pittsburgh with more than 60 million views across various Internet platforms.

Marina appeared earlier this year on NBC’s “America’s Got Talent, where she sang “You’ll Always Be My Hero,” an inspirational and memorable piece about her father, according to Gallabrese. For information on Marina, visit her Facebook page at www.facebook.com/IamAshleyMarina/.

In addition to the decision to not hold in-person events for the interim, the board of directors has voted to cancel its yearly membership meeting traditionally held in November, while extending the presidency of Marie Wilson until next year.

The guild is accepting nominations for open board of directors spots, with details available by sending an e-mail to info2020@ohiovalleymusicguild.com.

Applications continue to be accepted through the end of October for the guild’s annual $1,000 scholarship for college students, rising sophomores and above. For information, visit www.ohiovalleymusicguild.com/scholarship/.

“We have brought more than 50 performances to the Ohio Valley in the past, including Act II of the Nutcracker Ballet by the Pittsburgh Ballet performers, a swing band performance with dance instructors; opera, Broadway, and jazz singers and ensembles; flamenco dancers; a steel drum orchestra; and local talent presented by the Sycamore Youth Center,” Gallabrese said. “For the past nine years, with your support and commitment, we have been able to award scholarships to rising sophomore and above college students who have a local connection and who have declared to be in a music-related major. We also are proud to support the Grand Theater Restoration Project,” he added.

The guild’s 2020 sponsors include Le Chateau Pier, Microsoft (for Nonprofits), Google for Nonprofits, Valley Converting, Franciscan University of Steubenville, Crestview Veterinary Clinic, ACE Optical, Cattrell Cos., Dee Jay’s BBQ Ribs and Grille, Diamond Pharmacy, First National Bank, Gus’s Goodies and Hauser’s.
