Food Closet donation

-- Contributed

The United Church Social Service Food Closet recently received a $50 check made possible by M&M Hardware in Steubenville. The donation was part of a gift package that was given to local resident George Hines, left, as part of his award for being named a Community Star by the Herald-Star and The Weirton Daily Times. Hines, who was nominated by a citizen of New Cumberland for his beautification efforts and other projects throughout the city, was asked to pick a charity of his choice for the $50 check, and he chose the local food closet. Hines expressed his gratitude to all the volunteers who make the food closet such an asset for the community. “I encourage others to donate food items to help put food on the table for those who really need it, especially at this time of year,” noted Hines, who presented the donation recently to Dorothy Swearingen, director of the food closet.
