‘Preserving What You Grow’ workshop seeks participants

NEW CUMBERLAND — The Hancock County Community Educational Outreach Service will hold the second “From Garden to Pantry — Preserving What You Grow” workshop on Aug. 18, beginning at 10 a.m. at Camp Aura.

If enough interest is shown, a second, evening class will be offered on Aug. 19, beginning at 4 p.m.

The workshop will cover pressure and water-bath canning. Anyone interested in attending the workshop needs to contact the WVU Hancock County Extension office no later than Aug. 10 by calling (304) 564-3805.

Because space is limited a paid RSVP is required. Cost of the workshop is $15 and includes all materials as well as a working lunch.

‘Trails’ theme for camera

club’s July competition

WINTERSVILLE — The Upper Ohio Valley Camera Club has announced the July competition winners to the theme “Trails.”

The theme category winners were: First place, Karen Felix; second place, Deb Snider; and third place, Anissa Wellington. Open category winners were: First place, Barb Momyer; second place, Andy Tindor, and third place, Deb Snider. The special effects category winners were: First place, Andy Tindor; second place, Karen Felix; and third place, Deb Snider.

The Upper Ohio Valley Camera Club welcomes anyone who has an interest in photography. The next meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Aug.17 at Two Ridges Presbyterian Church, 1085 Canton Road, Wintersville.

Toronto Seniors group has

baseball theme for meeting

TORONTO — The Toronto Seniors met July 15 at the Karaffa Recreational Center with President Judy Bickler welcoming members. It was followed with the Lord’s Prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance.

“Our Toronto Seniors meeting was a home run with a baseball theme decor,” Bickler reported. Baseball-related door prizes were “a hit” with winners including Jean Cline, Joyce Keenan, Barb Losey, Peggy Reynolds, Pat Pfabe, JoAnn Fogel, Vickie Ziegler, Mel Simpson, Joyce Berdine, Shelby Smith, Bobby Koltz and Judy Bickler. Mary Koth won the 50-50 drawing.

Jean Cline and Dan Ciotti are new members.

Carole Eddy read the minutes of the June meeting. Joyce Dobbs, social secretary, recognized members having July birthdays and anniversaries.

Following the blessing, a meal was served by Iggy’s Pizza.

A monetary gift was given to the Toronto Athletic Association for helping with the club’s move from the Roosevelt School to the Karaffa school, its new meeting location.

Several trips were discussed, including: Sept. 7, Grove City Outlet; Oct. 5, Amish tour; and Nov. 21, Columbiana dinner theater and Tony Costo Christmas show. For information, contact Bickler at (740) 282-6721.

Bingo winners were Nancy Nale, Vickie Ziegler, Marlene Dunn and Bill Cicone. Scat winners were Richard Dobbs, Joyce Dobbs and Lola Swanagan.

The next meeting will be the annual picnic at the Karaffa Recreation Center on Aug. 19 at 2 p.m.

Registration due Aug. 27 for fall, winter gardening program

STEUBENVILLE — Join the Jefferson and Harrison Master Gardener Volunteers on Sept. 11 to learn about gardening for indoor and outdoor locations during the fall and winter months.

From Bonsai techniques to winter room design, participants will have hands-on learning and get to take home a craft and variety of plants.

The event, sponsored by Riesbeck’s Food Markets, will be held in the lower level of the Scio Branch Library, 331 W. Main St., Scio.

Registration is $30 per person to cover speaker fees, craft supplies and handouts. Space is limited, and pre-registration is required. Those interested should register by Aug. 27 at 5 p.m. Checks may be made payable to OSU Extension and mailed to: OSU Extension Jefferson County, Jefferson and Harrison Master Gardener Volunteers, 500 Market St., Suite 512, Steubenville, OH 43952.

Complimentary coffee, tea and morning snacks will be provided along with lunch. Stop by the yard sale table to purchase garden tools, gloves and other items. For a donation, mums will be available to take home.

Old-time gospel sing, dinner

at Finley United Methodist

STEUBENVILLE — The Sunday evening service at Finley United Methodist Church, located at 958 Lincoln Ave., will be an outdoor old-time gospel sing and dinner on the grounds.

The public is invited to come to the 5 p.m. time of fellowship and worship where there will be a free picnic-style dinner.

Richmond museum welcomes visitors to Sunday open house

RICHMOND — The Richmond Community Historical Society continues its summer open houses at the Crew House Museum at 34 W. Main St.

Hosted by the historical society, it will be held from noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is free, but donations are appreciated.

The summer open houses are held from noon to 4 p.m. on the second and fourth Sunday with the final open house set for Aug. 22.

The museum welcomes visitors, including JUHS reunion groups, who can arrange a tour of the popular JUHS memorabilia rooms on the museum’s second floor, by contacting Phil Judy, society president, at (740) 765-4534.

Anyone interested in local history is welcome to attend meetings or join the historical society. Annual dues are $5. The next meeting will be held in August with planning to begin for the historical society’s annual Quaker Day festivities, traditionally held on the last Saturday in September.

Bloomingdale yard sale set

for Friday and Saturday

BLOOMINGDALE — A two-day yard sale will be held at the Bloomingdale Town Hall, 101 E. Steubenville St., Bloomingdale.

It is from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday and from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday. Cost is by donation. It is organized by the Make A Difference Committee.
