Funseekers welcome guests

STEUBENVILLE — The Funseekers met Sept. 1 at Scaffidi’s Restaurant in Steubenville with guests Kerry Thieme and Mary Ann Hoobler joining the 43 members attending.

President Judi Gaynor opened the meeting by introducing the guests. Joann Bugin led with a brief prayer, the Pledge of Allegiance and the singing of “God Bless America.”

Gaynor acknowledged September birthdays and anniversaries.

A brief business meeting confirmed the election of officers to serve through September 2023. The treasurer and secretarial reports were read, with a correction to the secretary’s report noted and approved.

Cathy DeBenedetto will serve as vice president. Gaynor asked for volunteers to provide door prizes for future meetings. Joann Llewellyn volunteered to provide prizes in October, Gaynor for November and Barbarba Jean Losey stepping up for December.

Membership dues of $10 per person are payable at the October meeting. Funseekers currently has 87 members on the active roster, and less than half have paid dues for the 2021-22 season, it was noted. Callers will remind members who have not paid their dues.

Gaynor and Charlotte Christian were callers for several games of bingo. Straight bingo winners were Sondra Nestor, Marge Serafini and Michele Fabbro, the latter of whom also won the final coverall game. Cash prizes were awarded to the winners.

Tour Director Regina Truax reviewed upcoming trips and announced a new trip to the Rivers Casino is planned for Sept. 30. Anyone interested in this trip is encouraged to call Truax for reservations ASAP.

Other trips scheduled for 2021 include: Oct. 1, Applefest in Franklin, Pa.; Oct. 8, Meadows Casino; Oct. 13-15, Lancaster Sights and Sounds Theater; Oct. 30, DooWop, Bobby Rydell at the Capitol Theater, Wheeling; and Dec. 2, Oglebay Festival of Lights. Trips for 2022 include: Feb. 6, “Pretty Woman,” the Benedum; March 13, “Hamilton” at the Benedum; Aug. 29-Sept. 3, Myrtle Beach; and Sept. 20-22, Seneca Niagara.

Door prizes of Kroger gift cards were provided by Chuck and Joann Bugin. Winners were Linda Aloi, George Williams, Mary Alice Meyer, Laura Mamula, Barbara Jean Losey, Joann Mulrooney, Deann Star, Barbara Purks, Carl Truax and Frank Wisnewski.

Barbara Jean Losey won the 50-50 drawing.

The next meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m.on Oct. 6 at Undo’s in Weirton and will feature entertainment by Chuck Lucas.
