CEOS presents scholarship

Ethan Arner, a senior at Oak Glen High School, recently was presented with a $500 scholarship provided by the Newview Chapter of the WVU Community Educational Outreach Service of Hancock County. Arner is the son of Renee and Alvin “Pete” Arner of Chester and plans to attend West Virginia University this fall as a business major. The scholarship was in the form of a cash award to be used at the recipient’s discretion to help defray the cost of his continuing education. To qualify, Arner had to meet certain academic criteria and write an essay on what volunteering in the community means to him. According to CEOS President Becky Wiegers, who presented the scholarship, “This is the first scholarship the Newview CEOS has given, and we are happy to award it to someone like Ethan who is so active as a volunteer in his community.” The CEOS is one of several volunteer organizations of the West Virginia University Extension Service. Its mission is to strengthen individuals and families through continuing education, community service and leadership development. To learn about CEOS and its mission, to join an existing chapter or start one, contact Sue Isner, families and community development program assistant, at the WVU Hancock County Extension Office at (304) 564-3805.
