Mingo Woman’s Club installs officers, plans WAA involvement
MINGO JUNCTION — The GFWC Woman’s Club of Mingo held its June meeting at Mingo Aracoma Park.
Hostesses for the picnic meeting were Roetta Lewis, Kathy Maguschak, Janet Petrella and Stephanie Rouse.
Rouse, vice president, presided at the meeting and extended the welcome. The opening prayer was given by Mary Jane Tiberio. Rouse led the members in the club collect, which was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag.
Fundraisers were discussed, and it was decided to have a lottery tree drawing. Tiberio volunteered to be the chairman.
It was announced that Information Day will be on July 16 at the Embassy Suites in Columbus.
The Mingo Club will be hosting the Southeast District Fall Conference in Cambridge.
Lewis, Petrella and Rouse visited the Wreaths Across America Mobile Educational Exhibit when it stopped at the Fort Steuben Mall in Steubenville on May 16. As part of a national tour, the mobile museum promotes the mission of Wreaths Across America to “Remember, Honor and Teach” and has displays and information about how wreaths are placed on veterans’ graves each year on a Saturday in December. The event included a ceremony honoring Vietnam veterans specifically.
Rouse, chairing what is a club project for Mingo to participate in the wreath-laying this year, reported Wreaths Across America Day will be observed Dec. 17. A wreath sponsorship is $15. The live balsam wreaths will be placed on veterans’ graves at Oakland Cemetery in Mingo Junction.
Rouse introduced Mary Beth Allan, past Southeast District president, who conducted the installation of officers. New leaders are: Co-Presidents, Janet Petrella and Stephanie Rouse; recording secretary, Roetta Lewis; corresponding secretary, Mary Jane Tiberio; treasurer, Kathy Maguschak; and Press Reporter, Clara Sue Milewsky.
On behalf of the club and in appreciation, Rouse presented Allan with a summer hanging basket.
The club’s next meeting will be held in August.
