WELLSBURG — The summer will heat up with Brooke Hills Playhouse’s third production, “Bingo The Winning Musical,” which will run at 8 p.m. July 8, 9, 15 and 16 and 2 p.m. July 10 and 17.

Municipal Mutual Insurance Co. and Reasner Funeral Home are season sponsors for the playhouse, which is at Brooke Hills Park on state Route 27.

From the book by Michael Heitzman and Ilene Reid with music and lyrics by Michael Heitzman, Ilene Reid and David Holcenberg, “Bingo” is about a group of die-hard bingo players who stop at nothing to avoid missing their weekly game.

In between number calling, strange rituals and fierce competition, love blossoms and long lost friends reunite.

The play involves best friends Vern, Honey and Patsy attending the yearly celebration of their local bingo’s creation when a storm knocks out the power, reminding them of an ominous night 15 years ago that began the same way.

Director/Choreographer Cassandra Hackbart from Toronto has announced her cast: Kelsey Ohler of Follansbee, Kirsten Driscoll of Wintersville and Shannon Taylor of Wellsburg as the three friends; Angelina Montesano of Wellsburg, Maura Reiff of Wintersville, Isabella Costantini of Weirton and Andrew Dillie of Wellsburg.

Hackbart said of the show, “It is a hysterical musical that should be more well-known. It is pure fun from beginning to end and can be enjoyed by all ages. The audience will get to play bingo along with the cast a few times throughout the show! Bingo cards and daubers will be provided. I come to rehearsal every single day and laugh myself silly. The actors do a phenomenal job making these big characters come to life.”

Tickets are $14 for adults, $12 for seniors 55 and older and students, and $10 for children 12 and younger. Payment is by cash or check. Season tickets are still available in the box office and grant the purchaser one free show. Adults’ are $50, seniors’ and students’ are $42, and children’s are $34. Playhouse officials said they recently experienced a setback when its concession stand was robbed. Monetary donations for food and their ongoing effort to rewire the playhouse are appreciated and can be sent to the Brooke County Arts Council, P.O. Box 186, Wellsburg, WV 26070.
