Woodland Garden Club flower show winners are announced

WINTERSVILLE — A “Summer Wedding” was the theme for the Woodland Garden Club Flower Show held on July 7 at the Shorac Family Center in Wintersville.

Winners included Karen Lane, first place, “Table Centerpiece;” Carla Gasser, first place with her “Boutonniere” entry; Elaine Wukelic, first place with her “Unity Candle” entry and first place in “The Guest Hat” category; Cherrie Kough, first place and Best of Show with her “Outdoor Wedding” entry; and Susan Tatar, first place with her “Bride and Groom” entry.

Other members who placed were:

Class one: “Outdoor Wedding” using natural materials — Elaine Wukelic, second; Sarah Grafton, third; and Susan Tatar, fourth.

Class two: “The Boutonniere” miniature arrangement of less than 5 inches all round — Amy Roberts, second; Susan Tatar, third; and Sarah Grafton, fourth.

Class three: “The Guest Hat,” a silk arrangement on a hat — Norma Harris, second; Sarah Grafton, third; and Bernadine Sliva, fourth.

Class four: “Unity Candle,” arrangement of a traditional vertical design — Eleanor Drazich, second; Norma Harris, third; and Carla Gasser, fourth.

Class five: “Table Centerpiece” to include a 12-inch maximum height round mound design and is to include a one-piece formal table setting — Eleanor Drazich, second; Cherrie Kough, third; and Susan Tatar, fourth.

Class six: “The Bride and Groom,” an entry using two containers, Cherrie Kough, second; Carla Gasser, third; and Karen Lane, fourth.

“There was outstanding participation in the show with interesting and very nice entries in each of the six categories,” a club spokesperson noted. “We really appreciate our judges for the show who are members of the club that judged categories they did not enter. We are learning the art of design and of judging, to give us confidence to enter county and state Ohio Association of Garden Clubs judged shows

Norma Harris, Susan Tatar, Bernadine Sliva, Sarah Grafton, Joyce Griffin and Amy Roberts were thanked for judging, and appreciation was expressed to the flower show committee members Amy Roberts, Sarah Grafton and Susan Tatar for their work in writing up the contest, preparing and setting up for the show, and then stepping in to judge when others couldn’t attend because of COVID-19 restrictions.

Elaine Wukelic was thanked for taking pictures of entries and winners.

The club voted to hold the OAGC show on Aug. 3, 2023.

“If you enjoy flower gardening and think you would like to join the Woodland Garden Club, please show up at one of our meetings,” the spokesperson added. The club meets on the first Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the Shorac Family Center, located at 215 Fernwood Road, Wintersville.
