Foundation awards more than $600,000 to Ohio nonprofits

COLUMBUS — The Ohio State Bar Foundation has awarded $644,685 in grants to 16 Ohio nonprofit organizations through its Fall Grant Cycle, including one with benefit to Jefferson and Harrison counties.

Each project supports the OSBF’s mission to promote the pursuit of justice and public understanding of the rule of law, according to a news release.

This brings the total of grants awarded by the OSBF this year to $1,363,395. Grants awarded this cycle will provide mentorship and leadership opportunities for students, legal and civic education for immigrant populations and services that cover a wide range of issues including domestic violence, disability rights and homelessness.

“With the announcement of our fall grants, the OSBF is proud to have awarded more than $1.3 million in total grant funding during 2022,” said OSBF President Kris Burkett.

“This fall, we received a large pool of diverse and qualified applications, with nine grants awarded to organizations not previously funded by the OSBF. We are excited to support innovative and quality projects that will help achieve life-changing results for people across Ohio.”

The OSBF Fall Grant recipients include $9,875 to the Children’s Advocacy Center of Guernsey County to support the expansion of services to underserved children in need, which will provide direct legal services to victims, including case management, victim advocacy and case reviews.

The counties served by this are Jefferson, Harrison, Belmont, Guernsey and Monroe.

The OSBF is accepting applications for the spring grants cycle, with a deadline of Feb. 14.

“From small to large grants, we welcome first-time grantees as well as returning grantees,” Burkett noted.

“If you’d like to learn more about any of our grantees, be connected with a grantee organization or know more about the OSBF’s grant-making process, contact OSBF’s Grants Manager Laura Spires by e-mail at LSpires@osbf.org or call (614) 487-4444.
