MINGO JUNCTION — Todd Herman has a long career in education. He has served in various districts throughout the area. Now, he is joining Indian Creek Middle School as its new assistant principal. Herman, who hails from Dover, began his position at Indian Creek Aug. 1.
While he may be the “new” staff member at the school, he certainly brings with him plenty of experience as an educational leader.
Herman is a 1988 graduate of Indian Valley High School. He served as a sergeant in the Army during Operation Desert Storm, but returned stateside where he later obtained a bachelor’s degree in history from Kent State University in 1997.
This was followed by obtaining his master’s degree in school administration from Salem University in 2011. He and his wife, Julie, have three children, Jacob, Brandon and Autumn.
Herman began teaching at his alma mater. He also taught at Riverview and coached girls’ and boys’ basketball, as well as girls’ track.
He later became the principal at Conotton Valley Schools, where he worked for three years, then took on the role of superintendent for the district for seven years.
Herman headed to the Noble Local School District, where he served as its superintendent for one year. He joined Indian Creek this summer, succeeding Scott Abercrombie, who took on new duties as principal at the Jefferson County Christian School.
“This is my 31st year in education,” Herman commented. He noted he is excited to begin this new chapter in his life with the Indian Creek district.
“I love it here,” he said. “It’s a wonderful school district and the community should be proud of what’s going on in Indian Creek.”
He was thankful to the district leadership and staff for their warm welcome and support. Herman said he is looking forward to working with everyone at the school.
“Everybody has been very welcoming and it’s been a smooth transition so far,” he concluded, saying he wants to carry on the many traditions of the school district, along with its values. “I’m hoping to contribute to the success at Indian Creek.”
