Set to honor 200 years of Methodism
WINTERSVILLE — The village of Wintersville will be celebrating 200 years of Methodism at 2 p.m. Nov. 17 at the Wintersville Methodist Church.
The celebration will be held in the church sanctuary, according to officials.
The public is invited to join in the day of celebration.
Sandy Day, the church’s historian, has been conducting extensive research about the Methodist church, along with when the practice first began taking place in the village.
She stated that in 1824, class meetings were first held in the log home of Isaiah Winters, who resided where state Route 43 is now located. Local families went to Winters’ home for the church meetings.
Day explained the church was planning to combine the 200th anniversary with the rededication of the historic church bell of the Methodist church. However, the rededication will now be taking place in the spring, she said. Information will be released closer to the ceremony date.
