Funseeker’s Club discusses prizes, game nights

WEIRTON — The Funseekers Club met at Undo’s in Weirton Oct. 2 with President Cathy DiBenedetto presiding.

She introduced new member Mary Jo Canell to the 56 members in attendance.

Those with an October birthday and anniversary were celebrated and several members were named who are in need of prayers and support.

Following dinner, the 13-member Friends chorale group, led under Earl Tuttle, provided the evening’s entertainment of inspirational music and hymns.

The secretary’s and treasurer’s reports were approved and members were reminded to pay their 2024-25 dues at the cost of $10 for current members and $15 for new members for the first year.

DiBenedetto had copies of the current by-laws available and encouraged all members to take a copy.

The cost of dinner was raised by Undo’s to $19 per person. After a discussion, members agreed to the increase and voted to continue meeting there monthly.

DiBenedetto presented a signup sheet, asking members to volunteer to provide door prizes or lead Game Night during an upcoming meeting in the 2024-25 year.

Funseekers will reimburse members $100 for the purchase of door prizes and $50 for Game Night prizes, officials noted.

Volunteers were sought to serve on the holiday party committee.

The group’s next meeting, scheduled for Wednesday at the Breakfast Club in Steubenville, will include the honoring of veterans, the Super Bowl game board and playing bingo for cash prizes.

The club will hold its Dec. 4 meeting that will consist of a holiday party. Members were asked to support the Toys for Tots program through the Young Marines group again this year.

Tour director Regina Truax reported there are three events remaining in the year. The public is invited to attend any of the tours. The tours will include trips to a Nashville Opryland Country Christmas, Dec. 1-4; Motown Christmas at the Capitol Theater, Wheeling, Dec. 14; and the “Nutcracker,” Lincoln Park, Dec. 15. Barbara Jean Losey won the 50/50 drawing.

Door Prizes were presented by Truax and her husband, Carl, and awarded to the following members: Phyllis Riapos, Mike Rowland, John Balzano, Truax, Frank Cole, Joe DiBenedetto, Kathy Cole, Marge Serafini, Marlene Dunn, Okey Nestor, Jeannette Panebianco, Judy Bickler, Larry Bauer and Ann Iachini.

Undo’s gift certificates were awarded to Jean Dalfonso and Barbara Purks.

During Wednesday’s meeting, the door prizes will be presented by Karen Krause and Chris Sklenar. Plans include the Super Bowl game board that will be available for members to take part in and bingo will be played for cash prizes.
