Diabetes awareness

Members of the New Cumberland Lions Club offered an informational diabetes clinic on Saturday. The event was held at Davis Pharmacy in New Cumberland. Lions members Jim Gillespie, left, and Jeanne Cox, a nurse practitioner, provided participants with information on exercise, eating healthy and diabetes. In addition, 15 community residents received the opportunity to have their glucose checked through testing done with a finger prick. Those who were tested were entered into a drawing to receive a glucometer, which was donated by pharmacist Jeff Davis, who also is a member of the New Cumberland Lions Club. Along with support from the Lions Club International Foundation, the group is working to reduce the prevalence of diabetes and improve the lives of those living with the disease.
