Alumni invited to meeting

STEUBENVILLE — Alumni from the Ohio Valley Hospital and the Trinity School of Nursing will hold their bi-annual meeting at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Starkdale Presbyterian Church, located at 4600 Sunset Blvd. In Steubenville.

The meeting will include a covered dish, according to organizers. Alumni are asked to attend and enjoy “a fun evening with old friends.”

Fort to hold volunteer meeting

STEUBENVILLE — Historic Fort Steuben will have a pre-season meeting for all volunteers and those interested in volunteering at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Visitor Center. Tasks available include greeting visitors, giving directions and suggestions to travelers, conducting tours, assisting at events, helping stock inventory, creating graphic arts, landscaping and general maintenance.

“We work as a team and welcome anyone who enjoys meeting people and sharing their knowledge,” explained Paul Zuros, executive director.

CHESTER — All railroaders are invited to attend a breakfast meeting at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Family Kitchen and Smokehouse restaurant in Chester.

Evening story hour set

WELLSBURG — The Brooke County Public Library will hold an evening story hour at 5 p.m. April 23. Sponsored by WesBanco in observance of Smart Money Week, the hour will include a piggy bank craft and snacks. Snacks will be provided by the United Way of the Upper Ohio Valley.

Buckeye holding plant sale

BRILLIANT — Buckeye North Elementary School is holding its annual plant sale fundraiser to help benefit the Robert Dalrymple Memorial Scholarship Fund through Sunday. Dalrymple served as a teacher at the school until 2007. The scholarship awards a graduating senior with $1,000 each year, according to officials. Principal Susan Nolan stated Dean’s Greenhouse in Westlake, Ohio, provided the flora.

“They are proven to have beautiful, quality plants that everyone loves,” Nolan said. “They have been absolutely beautiful every year and we are looking forward to a successful fundraiser.”

Orders must be prepaid and entered online by Sunday. Paper copies must be submitted by Tuesday. Deliveries will be made May 7, with pickup available from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the school’s gymnasium entrance.

Available are bedding annuals such as begonias, impatiens and marigolds; annual flats of petunias, alyssum, dahlia, salvia, dianthus and zinnia; two-packs of peppers, including green bell, yellow bell, sweet banana, jalapeno and Hungarian Hot; tomatoes, including Big Boy, Early Girl, grape and beefsteak; three-inch herbs, including basil, parsley, rosemary, oregano and thyme; three-inch material, such as spikes and vinca vine; 4.5-inch material, including petunias, sun patients, tuberous begonias, black sweet potato vine and lemon coral sedum; zonal geraniums; 10-inch ferns, fuchsia, wave petunias and New Guinea; potting soil and gift certificates.

Prices range from $4 to $35 for plants and $10 to $50 for gift certificates. Organizers noted tomatoes, peppers, vegetables and herbs are sold individually in two packs and half-trays. These are available through paper orders only.

WEIRTON — Easter services have been planned for Sunday at the Bethlehem Apostolic Temple and Shiloh Apostolic Faith Assembly. Morning worship will begin at 10:30 a.m. at Bethlehem and at 12:30 p.m. at Shiloh.

Roundtable to meet

WHEELING — Chris Bagley, an author and Gettysburg licensed battlefield guide, will be the guest lecturer during the Ohio Valley Civil War roundtable meeting, scheduled for 6:30 p.m. April 23 at the Ohio County Public Library auditorium.

Bagley, a graduate of Catholic Central High School and the Aultman Hospital School of Nursing, is a resident of Canton and a surgical nurse at Aultman Hospital. His interest in the Battle of Gettysburg began when he was 10 and visited the national park with his family.

Bagley’s fascination with horses encouraged him to write “The Horse at Gettysburg, Prepared for the Day of Battle,” published in 2020.

The lecture is free and open to the public. Individuals interested in Civil War history are welcome to join the roundtable. Annual family fees are $20 per year. For information, contact Roger Micker at (304) 312-7559.

Church Women United to meet

WEIRTON — The next meeting of Church Women United will hold their next meeting at 11 a.m. on May 2 at the Oakland Presbyterian Church in Weirton.

The group will recognize Friendship Day and a luncheon will be held following the program.
