Cadiz High awards scholarships to seniors

CADIZ — The Cadiz High School Alumni Association awarded 23 scholarships totaling $50,440 to 15 Harrison Central High School seniors during the Harrison Central Awards Assembly held May 16.
A scholarship of $10,000 was given anonymously to honor and remember the school’s Class of ’74. The scholarship was awarded to Danae Hardwick of Cadiz, who will attend Belmont College and major in early childhood education.
The John and Margaret Tabacchi Family Scholarship worth $6,000 was awarded to Madsion Angle. Angle will attend Marietta College and pursue a nursing degree.
A new $5,000 scholarship honoring the school’s Class of ’76 was given anonymously and awarded to Tylynn Smith, who plans to attend Ohio University Eastern Campus and study social work.
A new scholarship, the Clyde Alan Cope Psychiatric Studies Scholarship, worth $5,000, was awarded to Madison Zeroski, who will study psychology and social work at Waynesburg University. Zeroski received the Theo and Judith Parlett Bertz Scholarship for the Arts for $300.

Anthony Pelegreen
The James and Agnes Bertz Scholarship Award of $4,200 went to Lauren Doane, who will attend Malone College to study exercise science.
The Betty Kirkland Leadership Award of $2,200 was awarded to Anthony Pelegreen, who will study finance and entrepreneurship at Miami University of Ohio. He has received the William Parlett Athletic Scholarship of $300.
Caleb Miller received the Welsh Family Scholarship for $1,800. He will attend West Virginia University to study exercise physiology. He has received the Rupert Beetham Memorial Scholarship for $250.
The Nancy Rogers Geanangel Scholarship for $1,500 was awarded to Kendal Hercules. She will attend Ohio University in Athens to study nursing. She has received the Taylor and Sylvia Cope Memorial Scholarship worth $1,000.
The Ron Mazeroski Memorial Scholarship of $1,000 was awarded to Reed Arbaugh, who will attend Ohio State University, ATI Campus in Wooster to study agricultural science. He has received the Isabel Clifford Memorial Scholarship worth $800.

Caleb Miller
The Thomas and Rachel Frew Scholarship of $1,000 was awarded to Annabelle Fischer, who will attend the University of Mount Union to study middle childhood education. She has received the Larry Bossell Memorial Scholarship for $500.
The James Kenny Leadership award of $1,000 was presented to Kennedy Dunlap. She will study accounting at Belmont College. She has received an anonymous scholarship of $750 in recognition of volunteerism.
The Grace Fleming Hall Scholarship of $1,000 was given to Markus Hilbert, who will travel to Kent State University to study nursing. He has received the Mark Beetham Memorial Scholarship for $840.
The Isabel Clifford Memorial Scholarship of $800 was awarded to Emma Fischer, daughter of Matthew and Megan Fischer of Scio. She will attend the University of Findlay to study pre-veterinary medicine. She has receive a general scholarship of $1,000.
In addition to Harrison Central students, a senior at the Jefferson County Christian School, Wyatt Hervey, received the Dean Scott Baker and Virena Baker Myers Scholarship of $1,000. He will study business at Geneva College in Pennsylvania.

Cole Saiter
Scholarships awarded each spring by the Cadiz High School Alumni Association are based upon interest earned by an endowment fund maintained by the organization. This fund has grown from contributions of alumni and friends of the former Cadiz High School.
To qualify, students must have achieved a 3.0 grade-point average. The scholarship committee, consisting of F.G. Gregory, Susan Zinko Jamison, Jon Kirkland, Patti Maffitt Sabo and Jeannie Moreland Wheeler, handles an extensive application process.
