St. Agnes Woman’s Club talks events
MINGO JUNCTION — The final meeting of the year began with a prayer and reciting the pledge for the members of the St. Agnes Catholic Woman’s Club.
Those in attendance sang “Bring Flowers of the Fairest,” as Mary Karovic crowned the Blessed Mother. Grace was said prior to the evening’s meal, served by Ohio Catering.
During the business meeting, roll call was held for officers, all of whom were present, along with 40 members attending.
Kathy Flippo asked if anyone would be willing to help the Friendship Committee. Michelle Trikones volunteered.
Flippo recognized those celebrating an April birthday, including Karen Sabatino, Paula Robson, Terri McGuire, Trikones, Valerie Morrocco and Barb Crugnale. Those with May birthdays were then recognized, including Phyllis Starre, Mariely Gessler, Karen Scaffidi, Mary Alice Mitchell and Flippo. June’s birthdays included Alda Jean McGuire, Janie Crisante, Joann Raha, Tina Titi, Mary Ross and Theresa Madden.
Members requested that cards be sent to Teaghan Tongate’s friend Raisa, a sympathy card be sent to Revs. Michael and Matthew Gossett, and congratulatory cards sent to graduating seniors Melia Lane, Dominic Libetti, Sam Swearingen and Riley Tongate.
Paula Diorio read the club’s correspondence mail, including cards from seminarian Jonathan Ruscoe, Joann Raha, the family of Dave Gibson, the DiLoreto family, and the Steubenville Catholic Schools Legacy of Faith Campaign.
President Theresa Madden announced she, along with Debbie Riccardo, Dorothy Mazik, Rose Marie Chappano, Jeannette Yanssens and Diorio, were to attend the DCCW Convention June 4 at Holy Family Church.
The Strawberry Festival will be held from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at Aracoma Park. Ashlynne Clendenen reported there will be a food truck and many vendors at the festival. Mazik asked for donations of desserts — preferably strawberry items, to be sold.
Carrie Petrozzi and Riccardo reported the picnic for the Bay 6 children will be held from 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. July 9 in the green space across from Bay 6. Volunteers scheduled to help include Diorio, Kathy Hoover, Michele Fabbro, Chappano, Theresa Jurasko and Flippo.
The parish picnic will be held following the 4 p.m. Mass on Aug. 23. Members volunteered for various jobs, such as preparing the shelter and organizing and serving food, followed by cleanup. Volunteers to get the shelter ready included Mazik, McGuire, Michelle Dickey, Trikones and Madden. Those offering to organize and serve food were Flippo and Theresa Kontra. Mary See and Trikones noted they will clean up after the event.
Madden extended thanks to all those who worked for the First Communion luncheon and the DiLoreto funeral. She thanked Susie Pierro for her donation to the CWC, and to Fabbro for the photos and ad for the convention.
Madden expressed her appreciation to Ashlynne Clendenen and Janet Daley for the drawing basket for the convention, and noted her gratitude to the CWC for helping with the spaghetti dinner held by the Indian Creek National Honor Society for Mingo senior citizens and those in need. The Rev. James Dunfee was shown the club’s gratitude for the use of the hall and his donation of meatballs. The club’s next meeting will take place Aug. 19. For entertainment, the CWC Players presented “Inside Caesar,” a spoof on Shakespeare’s play, “Julius Caesar.”
