Suspicious activity: Police and firefighters investigating a report of people and a fire inside a home in the 1300 block of Arlington Avenue at about 12:30 a.m. Thursday found two juveniles inside with an extinguished fire pot. Two other juveniles were seen jumping from a porch roof and fleeing on foot.
Domestic: Police responded to a report of a man breaking into a residence and assaulting a woman on the 900 block of Sherman Avenue, Thursday. According to the report, the resident said they awoke to a man they knew beating them in the face. The woman told police the man had stolen a key to the residence previously, broke through a screen door and took the woman’s cell phone off of a child who was playing games on it. The report said the woman believed the man looked at messages on a social media app that angered him, and he then proceeded to enter her room and beat her. The officer observed the woman to have scratches and bruising on her face and a welt and scratches on her back. The report said the woman was pregnant and worried about the injuries’ effect on the pregnancy and was taken to the hospital. She wished to pursue charges and signed domestic violence and protection order forms. Police were initially unable to locate the man. Police later located a vehicle that fit the description of one in relation to the man at the intersection of Slack and South Fourth streets and attempted to stop it. That report said the passenger door came open as the vehicle was stopping, and the man in question fled on foot. The man continued to flee, eventually running across the train bridge headed towards state Route 7 and scaled the hillside into the old mill area. Officers searched “extensively” but were unable to locate the man.
Chase: While responding to a disturbance on the 1100 block of Claire Avenue, police observed a man known to have a warrant jump from a bedroom window and run west on Claire Avenue, Thursday. According to the report, two officers chased after and apprehended the man. James Oxley, 34, 1111 Claire Ave., was charged for a failure to appear warrant, obstructing official business and possession of drugs.
