Jefferson County sheriff

Scam alert: A Rayland woman trying to remove a $120 charge she didn’t make from her Amazon account ended up losing more than $1,000 to the scammer, Tuesday. The victim said she googled the phone number and spoke with a heavily accented male “who asked her for all kinds of information” and had her download a different app from the play store onto her phone. She told deputies before she knew it, the man had control of her phone and withdrew a total of $1,028 from two of her accounts.

Fighting: Bystanders reported seeing a man run out of an apartment building on Two Ridge Road, Wintersville, with a knife in his hand and blood on his face, Tuesday. They located the man’s wife, who told them they’d been fighting and the disagreement turned physical. During the scuffle she said one of her teeth cut her husband’s head, drawing blood. The woman refused to be examined by medical personnel, but deputies observed bruises on both arms, her shoulders, legs and back in various stages of healing, but she refused to tell them what caused them. Deputies also said knives were strewn around the apartment and said the woman told them she hides them so she can defend herself from her husband when she has to. She refused to go to a domestic violence shelter.

Booked: Statie Fay Roberts, 29, 157 Talbott Dr., Wintersville, child endangerment and domestic violence, pending.

Booked: Brittany Cunningham, 29, 86082 Fife Road., Cadiz, warrant for failure to appear (OVI) and resisting arrest, Tuesday.

Steubenville police

Problematic: A woman in the 100 block of Water Street asked police for help getting a highly intoxicated woman out of her home, Tuesday. The disinvited woman said she’d been drinking all day and has had problems in the past with alcohol and methamphetamine.

Asleep: A man sleeping in a parking lot at Herald Square said his girlfriend kicked him out of their house after a fight, Tuesday.

Booked: Calvin D. Bryant, 33, 1355 Euclid Ave., Steubenville, was charged with obstructing official business and resisting arrest, Tuesday. Police responding to reports of an active fight in a parking lot in the 700 block of Brady Avenue allege Bryant tried to leave the scene without talking to them, running onto a porch and entering a house despite being told to stop. They said he held onto the door frame as they struggled, and eventually the two of them fell down the porch steps onto the sidewalk where he was wrestled into custody.

Served: Jody L. Petros, 49, 429 Cove Road, Weirton, came on station to be served with a bench warrant, Tuesday; Raymond Pleise, 65, 133 Water St., Steubenville, was served with a bench warrant and issued a summons to appear in court, Tuesday.

Booked: Tyka M. Petrella, 31, 324 S. Fourth St., Steubenville, charged with contempt of court after allegedly violating a no contact order, Tuesday. Petrella also was cited for driving under suspension

Booked: Cinque L. Reed, 40, 149 Lovers Lane, Steubenville, came on station and was served with a bench warrant, Tuesday. Reed appeared in front of Municipal Judge John Mascio, who sentenced him to three days in jail.

Cited: The owner of a blue Chevy Malibu parked in front of a no parking sign in the 1300 block of Park Street was ticketed for parking in a prohibited area; Michael A. Mellott, 60, 54181 Cove Road, Powhatten Point, Ohio, speeding; Karla E. West, 65, 165 Locust St., Wintersville, speeding.

Booked: Justin S. Hazelip, 34, no fixed address, was taken into custody on a bench warrant, Tuesday. Officers said Hazelip has failed to appear in court on three successive occasions.

Code issues: Notices of violation were sent to the owners of property at 1312 Arlington Ave. (rear), a large pile of junk and litter; 1308 Wellesley, trash and garbage piled in the back yard.

Cover up: A disturbance was reported in the 500 block of Woodlawn Avenue, Monday. Police said a male sitting on the porch said there hadn’t been any arguing, and only his two kids were inside. The children advised police there was no problem and no one else was inside., but neighbors said the man’s girlfriend also lives in the residence and said they often hear arguments and what sounds like physical altercations.

Booked: Heather D. Wurschum, 37, 205 Writesel Dr., Hopedale, was served with a warrant out of Belmont County for failure to appear in a child endangerment case, Monday; Jody L. Peters, 49, 429 Cove Road, Weirton, was served with a warrant for petty theft following a traffic stop, Monday.

Cited: Niobe Labre Manker, 28, 267 Hollywood Blvd., Steubenville, marked lanes violation.

Wintersville police

Booked: Gregory Howard Crutchfield, 61, 145 Lovers Lane, Steubenville, felonious assault, Monday.

Ohio State Highway Patrol

Booked: Daniel R. Adams, 25, Steubenville, failure to appear, Saturday; Jennifer Grimes, 31, 917 Washington St., Bergholz, was charged with trafficking in drugs and possession of drugs when troopers served her with a warrant out of Stark County for failure to appear.

Booked: Cinque L. Reed, 149 Lovers Lane, Steubenville, taken into custody on a warrant out of municipal court charging him with failure to appear to serve a three-day jail sentence.

Mingo Junction police

Booked: Anna Margret Clark, 33, 646 Prospect St., Steubenville, was charged with possession of drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of drug abuse instruments, Friday.
