Police reports

Jefferson County sheriff

Booked: Two individuals were taken into custody following a traffic stop Monday on state Route 7 near Rayland. Anthony Dorsett Drakes, 44, 513 North Fifth St., Steubenville, and Larry Darnell Alexander, 60, 500 Logan Ave., Mingo Junction, were booked on outstanding warrants for drug trafficking, deputies said. A large amount of cash in various denominations in Drakes’ possession was seized. Drakes was charged in municipal court with F1 drug trafficking. Alexander was charged with F5 drug trafficking in Wintersville County Court.

Checking out: Grandview Avenue residents needed help getting an individual to leave their home, Sept. 13. Deputies said the caller advised the man had stayed with them for a time but left, then returned without warning and refused to leave. When warned they were calling police, the man allegedly told the couple, “go ahead but remember I know martial arts and I know where your loaded gun is.” The caller said he didn’t brandish a weapon. Before speaking with the couple’s uninvited guest, deputies said they unloaded their gun and put it in a more secure area. The man told them he was homeless and was packing his belongings as they’d asked but he had nowhere to go nor did he have transportation, so deputies gave him a ride.

Stolen: An Amsterdam resident said her ex-husband was stealing the wood from a black walnut tree she and her boyfriend had arranged to have cut down, Sunday. The woman said the tree needed to be removed so they’d arranged to have someone cut it down and split the profit from selling the wood, minus the cost of cutting it down, but her ex and one of his friends showed up first and began cutting it up, dragging pieces of it away behind a white pickup. Deputies followed the drag marks and recovered a log measuring 8-feet by 2-feet which the pair had allegedly tried to hide along a cornfield. The wood from the tree was estimated to be worth $10,000 if it was in good condition.

Problems: Two teens were causing problems in the vicinity of Nancy and Juanita streets in Island Creek township, Friday. The youths allegedly beat on the doors of one house, and parked a dark-colored sedan in Juanita Street in front of another and messed with peoples’ garbage cans, deputies were told. The Juanita Street resident said they’ve messed with her trash cans three times, and on one occasion threw her can and a neighbor’s over the hill as they ran away.

Robbed: A Toronto area resident told deputies his 2017 white Polaris Razor was stolen from his residence overnight, Sunday. He said he’d put his friends Razor in his garage and left his in the driveway overnight with the keys in it and when he woke up it was gone. He said it’s white with blue rims and an aftermarket blue roll cage with a light bar.

Clean house: A Mingo Junction woman said her brother and live-in boyfriend were arguing, Friday. The woman said the pair tangled because she wanted her brother to help clean the house. Her brother said he’d already cleaned but she kept arguing with him. All agreed there’d been no physical interaction and the brother voluntarily left the home.

Some thanks: An Amsterdam area resident believes a woman who’d sheltered at his trailer after her house burned down broke in to retrieve a BB gun she’d forgotten, Sunday. He said she’d last been at his home on Labor Day and had been taking her possessions with her wherever she went, but had forgotten the gun. He told police the woman texted him two days earlier threatening to break his window if he didn’t “get over here and unlock your … door so I can get that … gun or I’ll go to jail for breaking the window,” and said he texted her back that he’d be there the following morning to mow the grass. But when he arrived at the property Sunday, he said he discovered the left side of the front door had been broken out and pry marks on the door above the deadbolt and on the door frame. The striker plate on the door frame for the deadbolt was also bent.

Police said he had lacerations to his wrist and bicep.

Fighting words: Callers reported a disturbance at an apartment at Colonial Drive, Sunday. When officers arrived, the individuals involved said they’d been arguing but no assistance was needed. Almost as soon as officers left, they were dispatched to the same address because the two had started arguing again. This time they said they were leaving, and officers stayed until they did.

One individual who remained was advised they were not welcome on the property.

Entered: A Rosswell Avenue resident discovered her home had been ransacked and several items missing when she returned from the pharmacy, Friday. She told police an individual she’d passed on the way home had yelled at her that he’d been inside her residence and she suspects he may have been since he had her son’s drawstring backpack and a pair of his socks. She said a bank card was also missing from her wallet.

A Walmart money card also was found in the purse.
