Sponsors, planners ready for Speaker Series

Michael Hayden, former director of the National Security and Central Intelligence agencies, will appear at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Catholic Central High School as part of the Trinity Health System Presents the Herald-Star Speaker Series. Among those helping to prepare for the event are, from left, Brooke Chaplain of WTRF-TV; Carol Scurti, development director at Catholic Central High School; Larae Messer of Em-Media; and Cindy Kotsch, events coordinator of the Herald-Star and The Weirton Daily Times. Joining Trinity and the newspapers to present the event are Cattrell Cos. Inc., Eastern Gateway Community College, EZtoUse.com, Franciscan University of Steubenville, the Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce and WTRF-TV. Providing special support are Piergallini Catering, Newbrough Photo, the Inn at Franciscan Square and Hertz-Thrifty Car Rental. Tickets for the presentation start at $20 each and are available by calling the Herald-Star at (740) 283-4711. Reserved seat tickets purchased at the door will cost $25. The doors at Catholic Central will open at 6:45 p.m. Thursday. The school’s steel drum band will perform from 7 p.m. to 7:20 p.m. Members of the local group Spinning Jenny will perform the national anthem. — Dave Gossett
