WEIRTON — In an effort to better serve the residents of the Northern Panhandle, Catholic Charities West Virginia unveiled its new location in Weirton Thursday.

The office, which has been open a few weeks already, is located at the Weirton Christian Center’s Evyenia’s House of Hope, at 3217 Orchard St. Officials say it will provide opportunities to better work with partner agencies, area clergy and others.

“When we collaborate, and work together, we can get more done for the people we serve,” Chief Executive Officer Beth Zarate said.

Northern Regional Director Beth Collins explained Catholic Charities has been receiving requests for several years for a permanent site to better serve Hancock and Brooke county residents, allowing improved access to its programs.

“This office at the House of Hope offers that opportunity,” Collins said.

Catholic Charities will offer emergency rental and utility assistance for those in need, as well as case management services from its new location. Enrollment in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program also will be available.

“Not only will this opportunity enable CCWVa to spread our mission and our services, but this also gives us a chance to partner with other agencies throughout Brooke and Hancock counties to provide assistance and be a system of support to those in need,” stated Kelly Pizzoferrato, who is the case manager assigned to the Weirton office.

Pizzoferrato explained, up until now, their local presence consisted of setting up in local libraries a few times a month.

Collins thanked the Weirton Christian Center and Executive Director Kim Weaver for agreeing to allow them to locate their office at the House of Hope, applauding the work the organization does for the youth of the community.

“Kim and the team at the Weirton Christian Center are such a bright light in Weirton,” Collins said.

Weaver noted while the Christian Center provides preschool and after-school programs, and can provide some additional services, Catholic Charities will be able to expand what is offered to assist those in need.

“It’s great to know you guys are going to be in town,” Weaver said.

Catholic Charities West Virginia will be available from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, with appointments made by calling (304) 830-2410.
