Eastern Ohio in spotlight at Northeast Petrochemical Conference

PITTSBURGH — Eastern Ohio will be in the spotlight Tuesday during the 2018 Northeast Petrochemical Conference, planned for Pittsburgh’s Westin Convention Centre.

Nick Homrighausen, executive director of Community and Economic Development for Harrison County, along with Ed Looman, project manager for Appalachian Partnership for Economic Growth, will share the Eastern Ohio story with conference attendees on Tuesday afternoon.

“This is our chance to tell people from all over the world about Eastern Ohio in particular, and Harrison County in general,” Homrighausen said. “Our region is being touted as the country’s new petrochemical hub and we think we have a great story to tell.

“In recent years, Eastern Ohio has seen more than $60 billion in investment from the shale oil and gas industry. In addition, hundreds of jobs have been created. We have become the nexus of cryogenic plants and pipelines. We are poised for growth and the conference is the perfect venue for us to tell our story.”

The conference is positioned at the forefront of the growing petrochemical industry in the U.S. Northeast region. Key themes for this year’s industry-tailored event include the future of the region, site selection/availability, workforce development and supply chain and logistics.

Some of the companies to be represented are Chevron, Shell, MarkWest and Ember Clear.

“Given what has transpired in the region and what we expect to transpire once PTT makes its investment decision, this conference is an ideal opportunity for us to tout Eastern Ohio,” Looman said. “Much work has been done to prepare the region for what lies ahead.

“Counties up and down the Ohio River, along with our inland counties, have been working diligently to get sites ready for future development. Site development is a major, major factor for us going forward. We want industry to know our region is getting ready for what’s coming.”

The local economic development officials also will discuss projects designed to improve rail service in the region, as well as efforts to upgrade broadband reliability.

“It’s our opportunity to essentially tell the world that Eastern Ohio is prime for development and anxious to grow,” Homrighausen said.
