Hale named publisher of The Weirton Daily Times and Herald-Star

John Hale

STEUBENVILLE — John Hale has been named publisher of the Herald-Star and The Weirton Daily Times.

The announcement came Wednesday from Perry Nardo, regional publisher for Ogden Newspapers.

“John’s understanding of the Steubenville-Weirton market and our employees made him a perfect fit for this position,” Nardo said. “I have full confidence that John will meet the expectations of the local community, and am pleased that he has accepted this important leadership role to serve our readers and our advertisers.”

Hale is a graduate of Beaver Local High School and the East Liverpool Campus of Kent State University. The Calcutta resident is a 33-year veteran of the newspaper industry, having worked as circulation director of the newspapers since coming to Steubenville from Lisbon in 2006. He also has served as circulation manager for newspapers in East Liverpool, Monroeville, Pa., and Herkermer, N.Y.

“I have been in the market for the last 12 years, and I know this area and many members of the community,” said Hale, a native of Columbiana County. “I now will be providing leadership to a strong staff whose members are motivated to put an outstanding product on the street — and in front of our digital readers through our website and social media platforms — every day.

“I am looking forward to meeting and talking with many members of the community during the next few weeks, and to serving our local businesses through effective advertising in print and online.”

Hale replaces Tammie McIntosh as publisher of the newspapers. McIntosh, who held the post for two years, was recently named publisher of The Review in East Liverpool and the Morning Journal in Lisbon.
