Recognition
The TRIO program and the Student Activities Department at Eastern Gateway Community College recognized first-generation college students on its Steubenville and Youngstown campuses. The TRIO Programs are Federal outreach and student services programs to identify and provide services for individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds. They include programs targeted to serve and assist low-income individuals, first-generation college students and individuals with disabilities from middle school to post-baccalaureate programs. EGCC’s program staffed a table at each campus and distributed stickers and took photographs of first-generation students and EGCC employees who were first-generation themselves. Among those participating at the Steubenville campus were, from left, Gayle Koster, and Haley Friend, TRIO participants; Devon Leonard, academic counselor and program coordinator; and Marybeth Jones, assistant director of TRIO. — Contributed
