VETERANS DAY SERVICES

¯ FOLLANSBEE — The Follansbee American Legion Post and Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad will hold a Veterans Day program at 11 a.m. Saturday at the post home at the corner of Main and Raymond streets. In the event of inclement weather, it will be moved indoors, where the post’s auxiliary will serve lunch following the program. It will include a dedication of the new flagpole at the post’s monument and comments by James Tennant, the post’s new commander, as well as other post leaders.

¯ RAYLAND — Buckeye North and South elementary schools will have Veterans Day ceremonies on Friday. Events kick off at 9:30 a.m. at Buckeye North, and members of the Brilliant American Legion Post 573 will be on hand. Buckeye South will pay tribute at 2 p.m. Buckeye Local High School will host an assembly at 9 a.m. on Monday featuring the school band, students and special guests. Retired Master Sgt. Bill Carpenter of the Army Special Forces, and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputy Rodney Roe, school resource officer and a veteran, will speak. A luncheon will be held after the ceremony for veterans. Buckeye West Elementary will hold its event at 2 p.m. Monday, with pupil-led activities and involvement from the Adena American Legion. Local veterans are invited to attend.

¯ RICHMOND — Edison High School will host its 29th-annual event at 10 a.m. Friday. Classes will assemble in the gym and hear guest speakers from the Richmond American Legion Post 740 Honored Seven and Army Staff Sgt. James Gorrell, a 2005 EHS alumnus. The Edison High School FFA will salute veterans with a breakfast from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday in the Pleasant Hill cafeteria. Those planning to attend are asked to RSVP with a photo of themselves and the military branch they served in to be included on a wall of honor. The items may be texted to (740) 317-0151.

¯ STEUBENVILLE — The city’s Veterans Day program will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday at the Prime Time Senior Center, 300 Lovers Lane.

¯ TORONTO — The city will be holding a Veteran’s day program at the Gazebo/War Memorial at 11 a.m. on Sunday.

¯ UNIONPORT — A Veterans’ Day program will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday at the Wayne Township Community Center. All are welcome to attend the program honoring veterans.

¯ WEIRTON — A Veterans’ Day program will be held at 11 a.m., Sunday at the veterans memorial in front of the Weirton Millsop Community Center.

¯ WELLSBURG — A service will be held by the Brooke County Veterans Memorial Park Foundation at 1 p.m. Monday at the Brooke Hills Free Methodist Church. The Rev. Tamara Nichols Rodenberg, president of Bethany College, will be guest speaker. Members of the Brooke High School Choir will participate.
