Wellsburg council OKs redevelopment

WELLSBURG — Members of City Council on Tuesday unanimously approved a resolution to accept a redevelopment plan for seven lots, according to City Manager Steve Maguschak

The plan, submitted by the Urban Redevelopment Authority, included the three lots on Commerce Street (state Route 2) that had been in question at previous meetings. The lots were the site of a former BP, former Twin Palms car wash and former Snyder’s Marathon station.

Maguschak also said that a demolition permit was granted to Edgo Inc. for the Genpak building, 1700 Charles St.

Also during the meeting:

• Second Ward Councilman Paul Billiard reported the Wellsburg Lions Club donated money that will allow the city to purchase a Nativity scene for Central Park.

• Council approved a request to allow the use of Charles Street beginning at 27th Street for the Christmas parade, with an after-party to be held in the town square. The events will be held from 3 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday.
