Robbery reported at area Subway
FOLLANSBEE — Police responded to a call Wednesday evening from a Subway employee after an armed robbery was reported at the restaurant located in Follansbee Plaza.
The robbery took place around 8 p.m., according to police reports.
“We have a warrant out for an armed robbery,” said Captain John Ewing of the Follansbee Police Department. “At this time, we want to keep the suspect unnamed.”
According to witnesses, the suspect ordered cookies from the Subway employee. As the employee was fulfilling the order, the suspect allegedly pulled out a black knife and demanded the employee to open the register. He proceeded to grab the money, then fled the scene.
“We estimate the total loss being around $382,” noted Ewing
The Subway employee and another witness were able to write down the suspect’s license plate number.
Police traced the plate number to a home where the wife of the suspect confirmed her husband had the car that was used to flee the scene.
Authorities later found the vehicle abandoned at the Kroger in Steubenville.
