WEIRTON — The Rotary Club of Weirton Heights is planning an evening of fun, music and more, all to benefit the community.

The club’s annual Mardi Gras Gala fundraiser will be held Feb. 23, beginning at 6 p.m., at Williams Golf and Country Club.

This year’s festivities will continue the efforts of the club’s 2018 fundraiser by raising additional funds for planned improvements to the J.C. Williams Soccer Complex located on Colliers Way in Weirton.

“We’re focusing this year on the playground,” club President Tony Viola explained.

The playground will be a new development to the complex, used by Tri-State United Soccer, and Viola said it will be available for use by all area residents, not just those involved in the local youth soccer association.

“It’s not only for the soccer families,” Viola said. “It’s for all of Weirton.”

In addition to the proposed playground, other planned improvements to the complex include additional playing fields, a 1-mile walking trail, new score boards, a dog park and improved parking areas.

The evening will include entertainment by King Krab Blues, featuring two-time Grammy winner Eric DeFade.

Individual tickets remain on sale at $75 each.

Sponsorships also are available, with the $1,000 Monte Carlo level; $1,000 Music level; $500 Bronze level; $1,000 Silver level; $1,500 Gold level; $2,500 Platinum level and $5,000 Diamond level.
