Road project set to begin in Follansbee
FOLLANSBEE — Area motorists may have to deal with a detour if traveling through a portion of Follansbee.
City Manager John DeStefano announced Tuesday the West Virginia Division of Highways will begin a road project to replace a bridge span at the Main Street and Allegheny Street intersection.
“The plan calls for them to keep two lanes open on Route 2, but access on and off of Allegheny Street will be closed to Virginia Avenue from March 18 to approximately August 23,” said DeStefano. “There cannot be any tractor trailer traffic on Allegheny Street. Trucks must follow the detour.”
The WV DOH released a press release Monday to advise motorists to travel the alternate route of Allegheny Street to Eldersville Road to Mechling Hill Road to Harmon Creek Road to US 22 to state Route 2.
Inclement weather and unforeseen circumstances can change the project schedule. Motorists are advised to plan accordingly, reduce speed and expect delays, according to the press release.
