Investigators seek identity of body pulled from Ohio River

WHEELING — At about 1:30 a.m. Sunday, the Wheeling Police and Fire departments were dispatched for a report of a man’s body in the back channel of the Ohio River.

The body was recovered close to the to Bridgeport side of the river.

The 911 call was made by a boater on the river.

The body will be taken to the West Virginia Medical Examiner’s Office in Charleston for positive identification, which could take several days, according to police.

Wheeling Police Department detectives will be looking into possible missing persons cases with regional law enforcement agencies.
