Hicks to seek another term as magistrate

WEIRTON — Looking to continue his career of public service, Scott Hicks has announced his intention to seek re-election as Hancock County magistrate in 2020.

Hicks has spent more than 47 years in the courts and legal system, including nearly 26 years in law enforcement culminating with his appointment as Weirton police chief. He has spent more than 21 years as a magistrate.

Hicks will seek re-election to the Division 1 magistrate seat.

During Hicks’ time in office, he he presided over many criminal and civil cases throughout the Northern Panhandle. He has served as juvenile referee, chief magistrate and is the longest-sitting Adult Treatment Court magistrate in West Virginia.

Hicks is the District One vice president of the West Virginia Magistrates Association, having been elected by his peers.

A lifelong resident of Weirton, he and his wife, Jan, will celebrate their 50th anniversary in December. Jan Hicks works for CHANGE Inc. and the Weirton Geriatric Center.

They have one son, Darrin, who is the dean of students/discipline and head football coach at Weirton Madonna High School.

They also have one granddaughter, Jude Ella Hicks.

They are members of St. Joseph the Worker Church in Weirton.
