WELLSBURG — If Brooke High School Band Director Johnny Leonard has his way, the field at Brooke Memorial Stadium will be packed end zone to end zone with former band members.

The band will be celebrating over 50 years of playing for the county during the Oct. 25 home game, and all former band members for the past half century are being called back to help celebrate.

“Even if they can’t play, come and stand there with us,” Leonard said. “Show your solidarity with the band.”

Leonard said there are currently 100 alumni signed up to play with the band and that number, with the current 70 players, will make a pretty good showing — although they can always make room for more.

“Our 70 pieces with the 100 extra, we are well on our way,” he said.

The alumni will be playing the school’s two fight songs, “Bud” and “Green and Gold” in a special pre-game performance. Afterward, there will be refreshments set up in a special tent and the former students are invited to stay and watch the game.

Any former band members wanting to dust off their instruments and join the band should contact the school on its Facebook page or its website, wv01919545.school wires.net.
