Bethany College donates items to Helping Heroes for veterans
BETHANY — Bethany College marked Veterans Day by wrapping up a month-long collection of personal hygiene and household items to benefit the veterans support agency Helping Heroes.
The nonprofit organization in Moundsville provides support to veterans in Brooke, Hancock, Marshall, Ohio and Wetzel counties. Its services include helping veterans find sustainable housing and teaching budgeting techniques.
In October, the college began collecting pots and pans, dishes and silverware, glasses and pitchers, cleaning supplies, such as mops, brooms, and disinfectant, garbage bags, dish cloths, towels, and wash cloths. Toiletries, such as shampoo, soap, deodorant, shaving cream, and razors were also collected.
Bethany sophomore Hunter Tenney, who spearheads volunteerism for the Bethany’s Student Activities Council, said about nine boxes of supplies were collected for Helping Heroes. The Bethany Woman’s Club, a community group, helped the college with the collection, he said.
During lunchtime Monday, students in the Ogden Dining Hall also were encouraged to write a letter of thanks to be distributed to veterans as well.
