No one hurt in Mountain State Carbon plant fire in Follansbee
FOLLANSBEE — Firefighters from Follansbee, Hooverson Heights and Weirton were called to extinguish a fire at about 8 a.m. Saturday at the Mountain State Carbon plant.
City Fire Chief Larry Rea said the Weirton department was called to bring a second ladder truck to the fire, which occurred at the plant’s coal handling building about 10 stories from the ground.
Rea said fine coal material in a conveyor belt there caught fire but it was put out in about an hour and no one was hurt.
He said firefighters remained at the scene into the afternoon to ensure the flames did not reignite.
