MAY 5: EVENTS CANCELED/POSTPONED

Due to the precautions being taken surrounding the coronavirus, the following changes have been made regarding events and meetings in the local area:

¯ The Fun Seekers have canceled their meeting, which was scheduled for Wednesday.

¯ The 26th-annual Harrison Coal and Reclamation Historical Park dinner auction set for Saturday at the Hopedale VFD Social Hall has been postponed until Oct. 24.

¯ The Franciscan University of Steubenville Women’s Scholarship Guild’s annual Spring Into Spring fundraising event that had been scheduled for May 12 has been canceled.

¯ Public masses and liturgies have been suspended through May 29 for the Diocese of Steubenville.

¯ The Jefferson County Safety Council announced that the May Safety Council meetings have been canceled

¯ All military meetings for the Jefferson County Veterans Association have been canceled until the end of summer. The cancellations include the annual Memorial Day service held at the Friendship Park Memorial Museum, where the World War II equipment is on display.

¯ The Steubenville Rotary Club has suspended its weekly Friday meetings until further notice.

¯ The Steubenville Kiwanis Club has suspended its Tuesday noon luncheon meetings for May.

¯ Perpetual adoration in the Portiuncula Chapel on the campus of the Franciscan University of Steubenville has been is suspended, but the chapel will remain open for prayer each day from 5 a.m. to midnight. The monstrance will not be exposed.

¯ The Thursday Toronto Senior Citizens meeting and trips have been canceled.

¯ Two Ridges Presbyterian Church, 1085 Canton Road, Wintersville, has extended its closure until further notice.

¯ The Four Seasons Senior Citizens have canceled their meetings for the time being.

¯ The June 2 meeting of the Jefferson County Retired Teachers has been canceled.

¯ The 2020 Lou Holtz/Upper Ohio Valley Hall of Fame banquet and associated events set for June 8 has been postponed.

¯ The 74th Annual Weirton Steel Corp. 25-Year Club picnic set for July 18 has been canceled.

¯ Adult education classes at the Jefferson County JVS have been canceled for the remainder of the term.

¯ All Mingo Knights of Columbus Council 4361 meetings and business meetings and house committee meetings are canceled until further notice.

¯ The Chester-Newell Sportsmen Club has canceled all remaining spring turkey shoots.

¯ The Weirton Heights Memorial Baptist Church’s “Together” dinners on Wednesday are canceled until further notice.

¯ The Steel Valley RTA will be operating on a Saturday schedule. The Saturday schedule will continue until authorities have determined the COVID-19 pandemic has passed and it is safe to continue normal operations. The service be used only for essential trips such as travel to employment, medical appointments and grocery stores. Complementary paratransit will also continue to operate for essential trips only.

¯ The Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County will be closed until further notice as a measure of safety for employees and the public.

¯ Visitation at the Jefferson County Jail has been suspended until further notice, Sheriff Fred Abdalla has announced. The only exception will be for attorneys who are visiting their clients.

¯ All Steubenville city playgrounds and basketball courts remained closed.

¯ The Brooke County Public Library and its Follansbee branch have been closed.

¯ The Brooke County Courthouse is opened to the public for limited reasons. Call the department needed for details.

¯ The Weirton Municipal Building and the Millsop Community Center have been closed to the public.

¯ The Follansbee City Building business office is closed to the public.

¯ The Mary H. Weir Public Library is closed until further notice.

¯ Wintersville Village offices have been closed.

¯ The board of directors of the Weirton Senior Center has decided to close the center until further notice. The Hancock Brooke Nutrition program is making frozen meals available to pick up at the senior center today through Friday. Anyone who has ordered a meal for this week can pick it up at the door of the center.
