Edison High School names top grads for 2020

RICHMOND — Edison Local School District officials have announced the top graduates of the Edison High School Class of 2020.

They are:

¯ Carter Matthew Montgomery

Valedictorian — 4.0 GPA

Carter Matthew Montgomery is the son of Scott and Tiffany Montgomery of Steubenville. He finished his career at Edison High School with a 4.0 GPA and is a valedictorian of the Class of 2020. During his time at Edison, Montgomery played soccer for four years and was the kicker on the football team his sophomore through senior seasons. He was a four-year member of the Edison High School Chapter of the National Beta Club, was a member of Student Council and an office aide his junior year and competed on the Academic Competition Team as a senior. Carter was named first-team All-Eastern District and All-OVAC in soccer and was honored as a second-team All-Eastern District selection in football. Montgomery served as senior class president this year. He plans to attend West Liberty University and major in human biology.

¯ Jessica Lynn Dobbins

Valedictorian — 4.0 GPA

Jessica Lynn Dobbins is the daughter of Larry Dobbins of Toronto. She finished her career at Edison High School with a 4.0 GPA and is a valedictorian of the Class of 2020. During her time at EHS, Dobbins was a member of the concert and marching bands for all four years, the swim team as a freshman and sophomore and the cheerleading squad for all four years. Dobbins also was a member of the Edison High School Chapter of the National Beta Club and the Spanish Club for four years. She was also involved in the vocal music department during her freshman and sophomore years and was a member of the prom committee and the Drama Club. Dobbins was honored by her classmates as a winter semi-formal princess and served as junior class secretary. She served as senior class vice president. Jessica will attend West Liberty University in the fall and was awarded the Elbin Scholarship. She plans to major in English as a precursor to law school.

¯ Emily Grace Waggoner

Salutatorian — 3.96 GPA

Emily Grace Waggoner is the daughter of Gary Waggoner of Richmond and Kelley Skidmore of Toronto. She finished her career at Edison High School with a 3.96 GPA and is salutatorian of the Class of 2020. During her time at Edison High School, Waggoner was active in the instrumental and vocal music departments. She sang in the choir and played in the concert band during all four years of high school, she was a member of the stage crew for the musical all four years and played in the marching band as a freshman and a senior. Waggoner was a member of the Edison High School Chapter of the National Beta Club for four years, the Spanish Club for two years, and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes for two years. She was a four year member of the soccer team, ran track for one year, and cheered from her sophomore year on. Waggoner served as the junior class president, was a Girls State delegate and was honored by her classmates as a homecoming princess. She is a member of the New Somerset Christian Church. Waggoner plans to attend West Liberty University in the fall and major in education.

¯ Hayden Lowell Johnson

Hayden Lowell Johnson is the son of Kurt Johnson of Richmond. He finished his career at Edison High School with a 3.88 GPA and is ranked fourth in the Class of 2020. During his time at Edison High School, Johnson was an active member of the Future Farmers of America for all four years and was awarded his FFA State Degree in 2019. He was a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the Edison High School Chapter of the National Beta Club for all four years. Johnson competed in track during his junior and senior years. He left his mark on the Edison wrestling program as a four-year letterman and a three-time OHSAA state Qualifier, placing him among the most decorated grapplers in Edison history. Johnson is an active member of the East Springfield Church of the Cross. In the fall, Hayden plans to attend Ohio State University and major in agricultural engineering.

¯ Karissa Marie Cusick

Karissa Marie Cusick is the daughter of Dawnann Reigel of Steubenville and Michael Cusick of Steubenville. She finished her career at Edison High School with a 3.86 GPA and is ranked fifth in the Class of 2020. During her time at Edison High School, Cusick was an active member of our instrumental music department. She was a four-year member of the marching band and performed in the concert and jazz bands as a freshman, sophomore, and junior. Cusick also competed in solo and ensemble competitions during her first three years of high school. In addition, she was a member of the Future Farmers of America as a freshman and was a four-year member of the Edison High School Chapter of the National Beta Club. Cusick plans to attend Eastern Gateway Community College in the fall and major in business management.

¯ Alec David McBane

Alec David McBane is the son of David and Jenny McBane of Bergholz. He finished his career at Edison High School with a 3.83 GPA and is ranked sixth in the Class of 2020. During his career at Edison High School, McBane competed in basketball and baseball for four years. In baseball, he was named preseason honorable mention all-State for his senior year and was honored as first-team All-Eastern District and All-Buckeye 8 as a sophomore and a junior. In basketball, McBane was named to the Eastern District and District 5 teams as a junior and during his senior campaign was named first-team All-District 5, All-Eastern District and All OVAC. He was named to the All-OVAC academic teams as a freshman, sophomore and junior. In addition to his accolades in athletics, McBane was a four-year member of the Edison High School Chapter of the National Beta Club, was an office aide and participated in powderpuff. He also graduated from Eastern Gateway Community College with an associate of arts degree this spring after completing his coursework at EHS and online. McBane is an active member of the Crossroads Christian Church in Wintersville. He plans to attend Walsh University in the fall. He will major in business management with a minor in exercise science and will continue his baseball career as a Walsh Cavalier.

¯ Brianna Nicole Crawford

Brianna Nicole Crawford is the daughter of Tammy and J.R. McCoy of Toronto. She finished her career at Edison High School with a 3.67 GPA and is ranked seventh in the Class of 2020. During her time at Edison High School, Crawford played volleyball for four years and softball for two years. She was a four-year member of the Edison High School Chapter of the National Beta Club, was in the Spanish Club for two years and performed in the choir as a freshman and sophomore. Crawford participated in powderpuff and was on the prom committee. She was honored by her classmates as homecoming queen in the fall. Crawford plans to attend EGCC in the fall and major in radiology.

¯ Blake Alan Chesla

Blake Alan Chesla is the son of Andy Chesla and Sherri Chesla Smith of Amsterdam. He finished his career at Edison High School with a 3.66 GPA and is ranked eighth in the Class of 2020. During his time at Edison High School, Chesla played football and baseball during his freshman and sophomore years. He was an office aide and in the media club during his junior year, as well as a coach for the powderpuff team. Chesla was a four-year member of the Edison High School Chapter of the National Beta Club. He also will graduate from EGCC with an associate of arts degree this spring after completing his coursework at EHS and online. He plans to attend the Franciscan University of Steubenville in the fall and major in nursing.

¯ Mikayla Maryann Petrisko

Mikayla Maryann Petrisko is the daughter of John and Kim Petrisko of Richmond. She finished her career at Edison High School with a 3.65 GPA and is ranked ninth in the Class of 2020. During her time at Edison High School, Petrisko was a dedicated student-athlete competing in volleyball, basketball and softball for all four years. She earned first-team recognition for the Eastern District, the OVAC and the Buckeye 8 in softball and was named All-Buckeye 8 in volleyball. In addition to her athletic achievements, Petrisko was active in the choir and the musical during her freshman and sophomore years, participated in powderpuff as a junior and senior and was a two-year member of the Spanish Club. She served on the prom committee and was honored by her classmates as a winter semi- formal princess. Petrisko represented Edison as a Close Up Delegate during her senior year. She also will graduate from EGCC with an associate of arts degree this spring after completing her coursework at EHS and online. She is an active member of the Richmond United Methodist Church. Petrisko will attend the University of Findlay in the fall and major in pre-veterinary studies and biology.

¯ Melodey Anne Clancey

Melodey Anne Clancey is the daughter of Andrea Clancey and the late Kelly Clancey of Steubenville. She finished her career with a 3.63 GPA and is ranked 10th in the Class of 2020. During her time at Edison High School, Clancey has been an active member of both the vocal and instrumental music departments. She was a four-year member of the marching, concert, jazz and pep bands, as well as the choir. Clancey was part of the chamber ensemble during her sophomore year and competed in the vocal solo and ensemble contest all four years and the instrumental contest her senior year. She was in the musical during her junior and senior years. Clancey served as the band librarian this year and performed in the all-star choir her junior and senior years. She was active in the drama club, serving as secretary and assistant stage manager. Clancey was a Buckeye Girls State delegate. She also will graduate from EGCC with an associate of arts degree this spring after completing her coursework at EHS and online. In addition to her activities at Edison High School, Clancey is active in the Girl Scouts of America, and is a member of the Richmond United Methodist Church. She plans to attend college in the fall and major in engineering.
