Weirton planning for city-wide cleanup
WEIRTON — The City of Weirton has planned a city-wide cleanup for the end of this month.
The cleanup, being provided to current city sanitation customers, will begin with a metal items collection day on July 24, with household items picked up on regular garbage collection days July 27 to July 31.
Metal items, to be picked up only on July 24, include stoves, refrigerators, dishwashers, washing machines, dryers, hot water tanks, old railings, bicycle frames and metal shelving.
Items must be placed curbside no later than 7 a.m. on the collection day.
Household goods must be placed on the curb by 7 a.m. on residents’ regular collection day for pickup. The city will not be collecting construction materials, vehicle tires or parts, tree trimmings and brush, propane tanks, air conditioners, lawnmowers, paint, oil, antifreeze or hazardous materials.
In addition, recycling collection will not be held during the cleanup week.
The city will be enforcing its scavenging ordinance during this time. Those found removing items placed for the cleanup will face a fine of between $5 and $500, plus costs, for the first offense. For additional offenses, individuals may face imprisonment of up to 30 days in addition to the fine and costs.
