Plans for Marland Heights 5K in Weirton hitting the home stretch

Planning continues for the annual Marland Heights 5K Class, Fitness Walk and Kids Fun Run, set for Aug. 14 at Marland Heights Park, and organized by the Weirton Board of Parks and Recreation. Major sponsors for this year’s race are Tri-State Pharmacy, Steel and Wolfe Funeral Home, Starvaggi Industries and Tomtryco DBA McDonald’s. Pictured, from left, are Parks Director Coty Shingle; J.J. Registration for the event is available through Aug. 13. The youth fun run will begin at 6:30 p.m., with other races at 7 p.m. Precautions and social distancing measures are being taken, including staggered starts, pre-wrapped food for racers and the use of several areas at the park.
