Weirton sets controlled bow hunt
WEIRTON — The annual controlled bow hunt in the city of Weirton is set to begin Sept. 5.
Individuals must have been a resident of either Hancock or Brooke county for the past six months in order to participate. All participants will be required to attend a scheduled pre-hunt meetings, to be held in the state parking lot of Municipal Plaza at 6 p.m. Aug. 21 or 10 a.m. Aug. 22.
Hunters must bring an International Bow Hunter Education Foundation card, a photo identification and an ink pen to the pre-registration meetings.
Revised regulations governing the hunt, hunting permits, maps of the hunting areas and other documents will be issued at the pre-hunt meetings.
The following procedures will be adhered to during the meetings:
¯ Park in State Lot where tent is set up. Exit your car with mask on to sign hold-harmless form, obtain copy of rules and regulations and application. You must show proof of Bow Hunting Education Course to participate in the bow hunt. Failure to do so will result in denial to participate.
¯ Return to your vehicle and set radio to 90.3. Safety briefing and rules and regulations will be read over radio.
¯ Licenses will be distributed in small alphabetical groups according to your last name.
Participants must wear a mask and practice social distancing.
An International Bow Hunt Education Safety Course will be conducted at 8 a.m. Aug. 15 at Marland Heights pool. The is a fee of $25 and pre-registration is required. Contact Alexander Archery at (304) 748-8029 with any questions.
