STEUBENVILLE — Delayed since spring because of COVID concerns, Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce members were finally able to tee off Tuesday for their annual golf outing.

Chamber President Tricia Maple-Damewood said she was thrilled with the turnout for the 2020 Trinity Health System Chamber Golf Classic — over 125 golfers took part in the event, held at Steubenville Country Club.

She said bringing members together is always critical, but, given the challenges 2020 has brought, it’s even more important this year.

“This is our biggest fundraiser,” Maple-Damewood said. “It’s crucial this year, we don’t know what will happen with membership. Chambers (across the country) are facing a very uncertain future, we’re all dues-based.”

She pointed out the chamber “isn’t eligible for PPP monies and we are totally funded by membership dues and event income.”

Chamber leaders say the annual golf outing “never gets stale,” and brings business leaders, golfers, volunteers and sponsors together for a day of fun.

“This year it’s really important,” she said. “(Businesses) are still struggling, so this is a nice day to bring everybody together to network and compete for great prizes.”

Trinity was the title sponsor. Other major sponsors included DeNoon Lumber, Softite Community Federal Credit Union and Franciscan University of Steubenville.

Maple-Damewood said a highlight of Tuesday’s event was the drawing for the “Buy Local” gift tree — a mum decorated with more than $1,400 in gift cards donated by local member businesses, among them Holiday Inn of Weirton, JC Wine Cellars, Inn & Suites at Franciscan Square, A&B Pharmacy, Domino’s of Steubenville, Capital Recovery (the firm donated gift cards to Office Max, Yorgo’s, DeeJay’s, Fresh Twist and Garden Grill), Be Spa, Leonardo’s Coffee Shop, The Ville, Gus’s Goodies, Team Toyota, Vapor Jet, Holy Trinity Greek Festival, Iggy’s Pizza & Pasta, Scaffidi’s Restaurant & Tavern, The Inn at Brandywine, Downtown Bakery and Gem City Pizza.
