Commission Extends HVAC Bid Deadline

WELLSBURG — On Tuesday, the Brooke County Commission agreed to extend by two days the deadline for bids for a new heating ventilation and air conditioning system for the county courthouse.

County Commissioner Stacey Wise said potential contractors for the project said possible manufacturers of the system are among those affected by flooding in the south so the commissioners agreed to slightly extend the deadline to accommodate them.

The commissioners were slated to open the bids on Tuesday but will instead meet at 9:30 a.m. Thursday to do that and will consider awarding the project at their next regular meeting at 10:30 a.m. next Tuesday.

Wise said several people participated in a pre-bid walk-through of the building last week.

She secured a $100,000 state Courthouse Improvement Facilities Improvement grant for the project.

In related business, she said the commissioners may know next week whether they have been awarded another grant in the same amount for a new elevator for the courthouse.

Wise said because of the current elevator’s age, it’s become difficult to find new parts.

Both grants require a 10 percent match from the commission.
