Hancock County names teacher, service personnel of the year

As part of Monday’s meeting of the Hancock County Board of Education, officials announced the nominees and recipient of the county’s 2021 Teacher of the Year. NEW CUMBERLAND — The Hancock County Board of Education took time to recognize some of the best of the best, Monday, announcing its teacher and service personnel of the year award recipients.

“We have an exciting group of people,” Superintendent Dawn Petrovich announced.

Petrovich explained the faculty and staff of each school vote on nominees for each of the awards, and then a final vote is taken throughout the county school system to select a winner.

Jennifer Lauri of New Manchester Elementary was selected as the 2021 Hancock County Teacher of the Year, with Pete Huzey of Oak Glen High School named Service Personnel of the Year.

“I’m so honored. It’s such a privilege,” Lauri said following the announcement. “I love teaching.”

Other nominees for this year’s Teacher of the Year were Amy Beilhart of Allison Elementary, Jackie Fodor of Weirton Elementary, Latisha Brown of Oak Glen Middle, Lisa Burk of Weir Middle, Angela Chaffin of Oak Glen High, Laura Johnston of Weir High and Jim Luevano II of the John D. Rockefeller IV Career Center.

Nominees for Service Personnel of the Year were Bonnie Willey, Sue Clutter, Robyn Huffman, Terri Rodriguez, Teresa Baker, Carolyn Puskarich, Alec Allison and William Pugh.

According to Andrea Dulaney, director of student services, a cake will be sent to the schools of each award winner, in their honor, to be shared among the faculty and staff.
