Three-day series focuses on the role of Black fathers

STEUBENVILLE — The NAACP, in conjunction with Monarch Magazine, will host a three-day video series titled “Culinary & Conversation, Kings in the Kitchen.”

The series focuses on the role of Black fathers as well as the responsibilities and bond of African American men.

In each episode, fathers express their approach to parenting and careers.

The series will air at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Calvary Community Baptist hosting workshop, vaccines

STEUBENVILLE — “It Takes A Village: Steubenville Community Health Workshop” will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on June 26 at Calvary Community Baptist Church, 511 Woodlawn Road, Steubenville.

The workshop is an educational event inviting all members of the Steubenville community to learn how to identify a mental health and drug crisis, resources to utilize and de-escalation tactics, according to a promotional flier.

Andrea Dominick, M.Ed., LPCC-S, LICDC, and Ana Resendiz, MA, LPC, will present a “Mental Health Awareness and Crisis Intervention” workshop from noon to 1 p.m.

Vendors on hand will include the Jefferson County Health Department, Coleman Professional Services, A.L.I.V.E. Shelter, Tonya McLoyd Educational Scholarship Fund, Genoa Pharmacy and local church lunch sales.

On June 27 from noon to 2 p.m., free COVID vaccines will be available at the church from the health department with walk-ins welcome and no appointment necessary.

There will be door prizes and giveaways.

Tiltonsville Gazebo Summer Concert Series continuing

TILTONSVILLE — The Tiltonsville Gazebo Summer Concert Series, hosted by the Warren Township Lions Club, continues on Thursdays at 7 p.m.

The series is an eight-year tradition of the club. It was canceled last year, however, because of the pandemic.

The entertainment lineup includes:

• Thursday, Bill Gorby & the Musical Mercenaries;

• June 24, Poor Man’s Heaven;

• July 1, Honky Tonk Sweethearts;

• July 8, Roz & Lynn;

• July 15, Cabin Fever;

• July 22, Kevin Dennis-Reflections;

• July 29, Jim Berze;

• Aug. 5, Roger Hoard;

• Aug. 12, Dr. Jones-Kinsey-Dawes;

• Aug. 19, Polkaholics; and

• Aug. 26, the 40+ Band.

The concerts are free and are being sponsored in part by Unified Bank. However, a love offering will still be collected to support the bands and artists who perform.

The concession stand opens at 6 p.m. before each concert and a variety of food is provided by local clubs and organizations, including the Warren Township Lions Club, Country Kids 4-H, Girl Scouts, Buckeye Local High School Band, and girls’ softball among others. All proceeds from the concessions support the nonprofit participating groups.
