Man pleads following robbery charge

WELLSBURG — A Wellsburg man initially charged with the armed robbery of a pedestrian in the city has been sentenced for possession of marijuana.

William R. Dewall, 19, of Wellsburg, was sentenced to 30 days in jail and a year of probation after entering the plea in 1st Judicial Circuit Court Monday.

Brooke County Assistant Prosecutor David F. Cross said a charge the armed robbery charge was dropped because evidence didn’t support that a robbery occurred.

He had been indicted for allegedly driving up to a pedestrian on Marianna Street, pointing a BB gun at the walker and demanding money, details of which weren’t supported by further investigation, said Cross.
