HCSB Charitable Foundation to distribute awards

CHESTER — The Hancock County Savings Bank Charitable Foundation recently met to discuss the distribution of grants to applicants comprised of local service and support organizations. The 2021 recipients will receive their awards individually this year in lieu of a group ceremony in an effort to adhere to COVID-19 guidelines.

“The worthwhile and dedicated work accomplished in our communities by so many individuals and organizations is indeed impressive and humbling,” said Catherine Ferrari, bank president and CEO. “The projects outlined in the applications we received are a testament to the commitment, to the compassion, and to the impressive achievements of these groups.”

The 2021 awards will include a distribution of $55,000.

The 2021 awardees are as follows: A Child’s Place CASA, LTD., Beaver County Humane Society, Brooke County Committee on Aging (BCCOA), Brooke Hancock County Veterans Park, Inc., Brooke Hancock Family Resource Network, Inc., Chester Volunteer Fire Department, City of East Liverpool, Communicycle Beaver County Inc., East Liverpool Rotary Club, Fruit n’Holler, Hancock County 4-H Foundation, Hancock County Humane Foundation Inc., Hancock Brooke Ohio Counties Victim Assistance Program, Museum of Ceramics, New Cumberland Ambulance Service, Inc., Rotary Charities of Southern Columbiana County – Rotary Club of Calcutta, Rotary Club of Beaver, Special Olympics, St. Paul School, The City of Follansbee, Tri-State Christian Academy/Mercy Baptist Church, Tri-State United Soccer, Weirton Christian Center, Youth Services System, Inc., and the East Liverpool Garden Club.

Doug Comm, bank executive vice president and CIO and chairman of the Foundation Board of Directors expressed thanks to all applicants.

“We thank everyone who submitted applications, and we commend them for the work that they do to support the needs of our communities every day,” he said.

Comm added that the work of the Charitable Foundation is in line with the mission of Hancock County Savings Bank, which in part states the Bank’s commitment to making “our community a better place to live.”

The Foundation has been in existence for more than 20 years and has donated a total of $902,589 to over 160 local service and support organizations. Serving as the Foundation Board of Directors are Chairman Doug Comm, President George Ash, Treasurer Alicia Davis, Secretary Anthony Bernardi, Catherine Ferrari, Steve Cooper, Romie Castelli, Cheryl Schreiber, Marvin Six, and Drew Cooper. All of the board members are volunteers.

Funding for the Foundation is derived primarily from contributions by Hancock County Savings Bank. The Foundation promotes charitable and educational activities and generally provides funding in areas such as seed money for startup costs of new and innovative programs, human services or educational programs, capital and equipment needs, matching grants, and one-time grants for programs not requiring refunding. The next round of grant applications must be submitted by Sept. 30, 2022.
