Recognized for service

The Follansbee Fire Department was presented a U.S. flag flown over the U.S. Capitol in recognition of the firefighters’ willingness to put themselves at risk through their volunteer service to the community. The presentation was made by Mary Jo Guidi on behalf of U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va. On hand were, from left: Mayor David Velegol Jr., firefighter Paul DiGiacinto, Guidi, Fire Chief Larry Rea and firefighters Steve Varlas and Ryan Brindley. The fire department also received a large U.S. flag, for display on fire trucks during funeral processions and other special occasions, from former mayor Anthony Paesano.
