WEIRTON — Support and cooperation are two of the facets which keep the business community strong, and the Weirton Area Chamber of Commerce took time Tuesday to celebrate those elements as well as the accomplishments of some of those businesses.

Members of the chamber gathered at Undo’s in Weirton for its 86th membership meeting and awards banquet.

“Everyone here has played an important role in the success of the Weirton Area Chamber of Commerce,” noted chamber board Chair Joyia Lytle.

Chamber President Brenda Mull led the event, taking time to recognize several individuals and businesses for their contributions to the community.

Awarded for various milestone anniversaries were Charnie Insurance with 75 years; Goodwill Industries and Smitty’s Floors with 25 years; and Crazy Mexican, Taylor’d Massage and The Spoiled Pup with five years each.

The chamber also recognized Apollo Pro Cleaning and Restoration, Brightwood, and CHANGE Inc. for their 40 years each in operation.

Former board of directors members, Doug Finton and Michael Weaver, were presented plaques in appreciation of their years of service.

Mull also reviewed some of the activities from the last year, noting 36 new members had joined in 2022, and provided a look ahead at some of the chamber’s upcoming plans.

“We have a lot going on at the chamber and we’re excited to share it with you tonight,” Mull said.

Among those programs and events are Leadership Ohio Valley, Youth Leadership Weirton and the Dr. Barbara A. Matey High School Business Symposium, yearly activities which help to introduce aspects of business to some, and encourage others to get more involved in their communities.

The Christmas in July Golf Scramble and Sidewalk Sale both are returning this year, and the chamber is looking for businesses to “Cash Mob” as a way to further highlight some of those in the area.

A new event, the Surf and Herf, will be held later this spring, and Ladies Night Out is coming up in the fall.

Mull also announced plans for the community Christmas lights, offering thanks to the City of Weirton for its support in recent years, and noting a new partnership with the IBEW Local 246 to repair and maintain even more of the light displays currently available with the goal of having decorations in other areas of the city of Weirton.

She said it’s that cooperative spirit which has kept the chamber and the community, as a whole, going strong.

“I’m a believer you can get a lot more done if you work together,” she said.

Mull also took time to recognize the members of the chamber’s board of directors and its various committees.

Tuesday’s dinner was made possible through the support of Trinity Health System, platinum sponsor; Southwestern Energy and Summer’s Enterprise LLC, gold sponsors; Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Sewickley, Starvaggi Industries, John Cucarese Financial Services, West Virginia Northern Community College, and the Herald-Star and The Weirton Daily Times, silver sponsors; and bronze sponsors Borden Office Equipment, Eastern Gateway Community College, Electric O LLC, Frontier Group of Companies, Hancock County Savings Bank, Mountaineer Casino, Racetrack and Resort, and United Bank.
